Panning Techniques

Traditional Panning

  • Depth: 30-70% for subtle movement
  • Shape: Sine for smooth, square for hard cuts

Mid/Side Processing

M/S EQ

  • Mid: 200-500Hz for clarity
  • Side: Boost highs for air
  • Cut low-end from sides
  • Enhance stereo width

M/S Compression

  • Compress mid for focus
  • Light compression on sides

  • Maintain mono compatibility

Drums

  • Kick/Snare: Center
  • Hi-hats: Slightly right
  • Toms: Pan as if on drum kit
